Announcing Index: Book Tracker TestFlight

After many months of using it for myself, it is almost time to launch my second app - Index, a book tracking app (yes, I do love tracking things!). I’ve always been a reader, but as life has got busier it has been increasingly hard to dedicate the time I want to sitting down with a good book. Index is the app I’ve always wanted to enrich my reading life and motivate me to spend more time with books.

Now, I am fully aware there are dozens, if not hundreds, of similar apps out there already doing very similar things; so why Index? There are a few key features I wanted personally that I struggled to find elsewhere:

Setting targets, either for the whole book or a subsection: I enjoy reading along with online book clubs, which often have interim discussions on a particular date. I found it really hard to fit the right amount of reading in to benefit from this. If you choose to track reading sessions in Index, it will calculate how many minutes per day you need to read to keep on track.
Quick and high-quality camera capture for highlights: I read a mixture of physical books and ebooks on my Kobo, and like to capture some favourite passages. Index allows you to highlight text from a photo, then later export this to Markdown or automatically sync with Readwise.
Custom fields: at times I have been curious to see how many books I’ve read in a year, e.g. by author’s gender, or nationality, or books by publisher. Index allows you to add custom fields to books and authors, so you can keep track and visualize whatever interests you about your reading.
Native iOS goodies: widgets, Shortcuts, Live Activities and a watch app.
